Deski

Deski is a press release and news database service for journalists. Deski's customers are companies and public agencies that send press releases, invitations and other information, such as events, to the media. The users are journalists who search for information on their own initiative on the Deski press release portal or receive e-mails based on the interest criteria that they have defined on the Deski site. Deski also offers completely new services, such as brief radio programs on subjects selected by customers. Except for the news database, the material is free for the media and can be published without restriction.

TiedoteDeski Finland Oy opened for business in January 2005 and the Deski portal www.deski.fi was inaugurated on 10 February 2005. The founders of the new service are the graphic and animation studio Tradena Oy, the communications companies BBM Oy and Stellatum Oy and private persons. Naviatech Solutions Oy handles the technical realization of the site. Deski's sales have been even better than expected and the feedback on the service has been encouraging. In particular, the site has received praise for its ease of use, the efficient structure of its navigation and its young, lively appearance.

Technology and functionality have been essential to Deski's business. They selected the implementer for the technology on the basis of cost-effectiveness, precision and delivery lead times as well as experience in the realization of similar types of portals. Naviatech did an admirable job even though the deadlines were tight. The service has also been operating without problems and according to the requirements. Updating the content is easy and even the special functions are simple and easy to use.

Deski's site required many special technical innovations such as the publication of radio news, complex services for ordinary press releases and a news database. Implementing all this required an infinite amount of consultation with the customer, testing and fine-tuning. The special and partly new functions were implemented successfully. Deski is a new service and, therefore, the concept and techniques underlying the service are continuously being developed, changed and expanded, sometimes small changes even daily… This would not be possible without a functioning relationship between the customer and the technology supplier.
